Newspapers
The most obvious place to put your Job Advert is in a newspaper. But you have to think carefully about which newspaper you choose. Local newspapers are cheaper to advertise in, but you will only get people reading it who live in the local area. What if the right person for the job doesn't live near to your business.
Large national newspapers, like The Sun or The Guardian, are obviously seen by millions of people. These newspapers would be good for the big jobs, like if Sainsbury's needed to advertise for a new Chief Executive (that's the top top job in a business). But large national newspapers cost an absolute fortune to advertise in.
You've also got the problem of choosing which newspaper to use. Should you advertise in a 'redtop' like The Sun or The Star or should you choose one of the posh 'broadsheets' like The Times or The Guardian? Different people read different papers, so you need to make sure you spend your money wisely.

The Internet
More and more people these days turn to the internet to look for jobs. Adverts on the internet are normally cheaper than newspaper adverts and they can contain lots of colour and pictures. Really good ones also contain sound and video.
That's all good news for your business in your quest to get the best people for your business. But the internet is flooded with jobs, so how do you make your advert stand out from the millions of other adverts on the internet. You could end up with an advert that nobody ever gets to see!

Job Centres
Job Centres are run by the government to try and get unemployed people back into work. By getting somebody a ob, it means that the person will then start paying Income Tax and they also won't need to receive unemployment benefit (dole money to me and you).
Job Centres contains lots of jobs and it is normally free to put your Job Advert in there. You know that it will get read by people who are looking for work, so it could be a great place to advertise.
One possible problem, however, is that most of the people looking in Job Centres are unemployed, so they may not have the skills and experience that you are looking for. Also, most of the jobs advertised in a Job Centre are low-skilled, minumum wage type jobs. Probably not the best place to advertise for an Area Manager of your precious business then!

Recruitment Agencies
Recruitment Agencies are a bit like Job Centres only they are in the Private Sector as they are out to make a profit. They work like this.....
Imagine that you own your own business and you want to employ a new worker. You could advertise in the paper and then interview loads of different people. This will cost you time and money. Alternatively, you could just ask a Recruitment Agency to find you somebody.
The Recruitment Agency will do all of the advertising and interviewing for you and supply you with a suitable person. Sounds easy? So where's the catch?
Well, if the Recruitment Agency do find you somebody, they will charge your business a fee. So, in the long run, it's not really saving your business money, but it is saving them time by you not having to interview loads of crazy people who think they can do the job but in reality they'd struggle to make a brew!
